EarthDance Heart & Soul: Volunteer Jane Keating

If you’ve ever signed up to volunteer with us on our website, you’ve seen Jane Keating gracing your computer screen with a smile and a full box of freshly harvested lettuce. Three years ago she read about EarthDance in a Sunday newspaper article, came for a tour on Tuesday, and started volunteering that Friday. And almost every week since then, Jane’s been our one-women Team Tidy, Cheer Bringer, and Harvest Hero. EarthDance is so blessed to have such a tireless volunteer who not only gives her time but shares her kindness and passion with everyone she encounters. I always look forward to Friday mornings because those are Jane days.

I recently asked her to share a little bit about her time on the farm. Jane beautifully writes:

One of my favorite memories is the way Monica lets us all taste something we are about to harvest.  I call this “farm communion,”  as we each break off a piece and pass the rest to someone else.

I enjoy volunteering mainly because I want to do something useful with my time.   EarthDance gives me a chance to work with people of different age groups and interests;  we all come from different backgrounds, but we share a love of the farm.  I have had the opportunity to see how so many different vegetables grow, and have tried many  foods for the first time.
I appreciate the grace of the staff at EarthDance.  If I don’t do something just right, they simply tell me how to do it better instead of being critical.  I am impressed that everyone is as eager to learn as they are to teach.
We appreciate you, Jane! Thank you for all your hard work.
