Although it was a chilly January morning (6º windchill at 8am!) EarthDance welcomed over 50 volunteers for a day of service at the farm.
A large group of willing volunteers came from the University of Miami, Ohio through a connection with UMSL. They spent the weekend in St. Louis, sightseeing around town (a favorite was the City Museum) before heading to EarthDance early Monday morning to lend a hand cleaning up the farm.
There was also a group of Americorps VISTA volunteers serving for the MLK Day of Service happening around the nation. VISTA Trina Mizer says, “I had a wonderful time volunteering at EarthDance for the MLK Day of Service. Despite the cold, it was a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, to contribute to the continued development of the farm, and to learn about the history and vision of EarthDance. I hope to have many more opportunities to help out at the farm.”
Along with other volunteers, they cleaned up the old Mueller house to make it ready as the new EarthDance headquarters, making room for the new staff coming on board this year. The group of about fifty-seven helpers filled two dumpsters with debris from the farm, as well as gathered sixty-four tires to be recycled.
