Last chance to get your veggies this winter!
Come say hello at the Schlafly Bottleworks market Sat. Dec. 22 from 9am-1pm. This is the last market, but we will have lots of yummy crops available, including:
- Broccoli
- Kale
- Watermelon Radish
- Daikon
- Spinach
- Leeks
- Scallions
- Beets, red and gold
- Cabbage
- Cauliflower
- Brussels Sprouts
- Pac/Bok Choi
- Lettuce
- Turnips, Japanese and American Purple Top
Keep in mind that these root crops (greens removed) and cabbage will store for months and broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and spinach can be blanched and frozen, keeping local food on your plate all winter long. You will also find that most of these crops have developed a sweeter and delicious flavor after enduring many frosts. Plants produce more sugars near freezing temperatures which functions as a natural anti-freeze.
So come by the market, say hello, and stock up!
