Mita Sharma, Class of 2021. Mita is currently a graduate student in the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan where she is studying the intersection of agroecology, biodiversity, and food sovereignty movements, contextualized by systems of colonization and capitalism. Outside of school, Mita tends to a few community garden plots and is working on converting one of the plots into an urban food forest. For Mita, EarthDance’s apprenticeship was vital in empowering her to step into this work: not only to gain actual farming skills and knowledge, but to experience both the process and impact of reorienting farming and food towards community sovereignty and environmental justice.
