Would you love to grow your own food but don’t know where to begin? Or have your previous attempts at gardening fruits and veggies fizzled?

Get in the game: We are here to help you grow a delicious bounty! This 5-week course was designed for total beginners to gardening as well as those who want to plan and maintain their most successful garden yet. Spring Training will meet you where you are, with both online and hands-on options available.

Round the bases as you learn step-by-step how to choose the best crops, determine the right site for your garden, prepare your soil, manage your plot throughout the growing season, and put into play our easy tips to maximize your yield.

Do you live in the St. Louis area?

You’re in luck! In addition to the 5 week live online Spring Training, you can join us in person for hands-on education at our 14 acre Organic Farm School campus in Ferguson. On Saturday, April 17th, and Saturday, May 1st, you can participate in 2 two hour workshops to learn all about propagation and seed starting in a greenhouse, understand how to lay out your garden area, and feel confident in building your own bed and/or starting your own container garden. Both morning and afternoon sessions available – choose which time when you sign up!

In addition, you’ll be invited to Plant it Forward with a tour and community work day at one of our partner farms or gardens on Saturday May 15th, culminating in a celebratory potluck to complete the course together.

Do you live in Ferguson, Kinloch, Berkeley, Calverton Park, Cool Valley, or Dellwood?

EarthDance is offering Spring Training free to residents of the farm’s six surrounding municipalities. If you live in Ferguson, Kinloch, Berkeley, Calverton Park, Cool Valley, or Dellwood, you are invited to participate as our guest. You can choose from any of our 5 classes, select the entire bundle of online live classes, or even participate in the Online + Hands-on training that includes the Saturday workshops. Our goal in offering these resources at no financial cost to our neighbors is to better support our local community’s health and well-being. Many of our community members have experienced food apartheid, and we aim to help create a shift towards food sovereignty.

EarthDance’s Spring Training program was designed with equity at the center. We strive to remove barriers that keep people from living healthy lives and growing food for themselves and their communities. EarthDance understands that many of these barriers are the result of oppressive systems that privilege some people and disempower others based on race and financial position. EarthDance embraces a charge to critically examine the role that our organization plays in maintaining or disrupting these systems. Frequently asked questions

I don’t have much gardening experience; is this program right for me?

Spring Training was designed for you if you have never grown a vegetable garden before and are eager to start! Or, if you have had a garden, but didn’t have as much success as you wanted to. Or if you’ve gotten started, but want to learn more so you can increase the frequency or volume of your harvests! This program is NOT FOR: seasoned, veteran gardeners or folks who can’t spare 2-3 hours each week for 5 weeks

Why is it free for residents of the six local municipalities of Ferguson, Kinloch, Berkeley, Cool Valley, Calverton Park, and Dellwood?

EarthDance is based in Ferguson, Missouri, near the border of Ferguson and Kinloch. The other municipalities are all in very close proximity to the farm. Our goal in offering these resources at no financial cost to our neighbors is to better support our local community’s health and well-being.

Which program option is free to residents of the six municipalities?

Both! You choose what’s best for you.

We want to provide our neighbors with the knowledge and skills in whatever format works best for them so that they have the tools to create an abundant garden.

Are you still doing the Apprenticeship program?

The EarthDance Farm & Garden Apprenticeship, our flagship program for 12 years, is no longer continuing in the same form. We have reconsidered the optimal ways to offer farm-based education that meet the needs and availability of as many people in our region as possible, and have determined that offering a shorter duration, lower cost, beginner-focused organic gardening program is what is most needed right now.

We also have seen the need for a more time-intensive organic farming apprenticeship program that gives aspiring growers the opportunity to explore organic farming as a career path.. and that also offers pay! We are partnering with AmeriCorps to be able to do so, and offering a Summer Apprenticeship that will be a 10-week, full-time organic farming apprenticeship to allow participants to engage in regenerative agriculture hands-on. Summer apprentices will receive AmeriCorps wages and gain agricultural skills while helping to grow more healthy food for our region. Applications for this program will open in April, with a June 1st start date for the program.
