August Classes at EarthDance

August 5—Farming as a Business
Flower Farmer and Agricultural Extension Agent Karen Davis will lead this class on farming as a business. Davis will cover branding, professionalism, and getting started with an agricultural business.

August 12th—Visit to YOURS Market Farm
Join EarthDance on a visit to Yours Market Farm in Baden. Baden is a North Side neighborhood that is widely agreed to be a “food desert” where fresh produce is particularly hard to find. YOURS is a grocery store in operation since 2011 that sells a full range of grocery products, as well as fresh and prepared foods. In the lot behind the market, the operators grow fresh produce sold in the store. They also have plans to tend bees for honey, and investigate small-scale aquaculture for the site.

August 19th—Beekeeping 101
Agricultural Extension agent and successful apiarist Miranda Duschack will lead this introduction to beekeeping. She will present a check-list of questions that a would-be beekeeper should ask before getting started, as well as addressing the necessary supplies and gear, and answering your questions.

August 26th—Seed Saving
Ryan Barker of Gateway Greening will lead this class on the how’s and why’s of collecting and saving your own seeds.
