Final Month of Farmers Markets

from Market Manager Julie Holley

We are in our last lap of the farmers market season, with the Maplewood Schlafly Market open on Wednesdays from 4:00-7:00 through October 27, and the Ferguson Farmers’ Market open Saturdays from 8:00-noon through October 30.  EarthDance will also be participating in the November winter market at Schlafly on Saturday morning, November 20.  Come get your sweet potatoes for Turkey Day!

Apprentice Pam Klump with Sweet Potatoes

Although the farmers market season is waning (and, thankfully, those blistering summer temperatures!), our fall crops are emerging splendidly at EarthDance.  Visit the markets in October and you will find: sweet potatoes, several varieties of green beans, kale-loves the cooler temperatures-as does chard (we’ve added a milder variety, Bionda Di Lyon), radishes and spinach.  My WOW! veggie of the month award goes to our red and white Japanese turnips-so sweet that I end up eating them sliced raw before I can even roast them!  And their greens are a nutritional bonus.  This summer’s long heat spells were a challenge for our tomatoes, but we will have slicers, heirlooms and Sun Gold cherries until frost, as well as okra, herbs, and our beautiful field-grown flowers.
